BMC Participation Statement and Civil Liability Insurance
We support the BMC participation statement which is shown below. This can be found on the BMC Risk and Safety page [1] which also places the risks of mountaineering in context.
The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
As SCC is affiliated to the BMC, all its members are automatically covered by BMC Civil Liability insurance for claims for injury, financial loss or damage where negligence occurs. The BMC also provide Personal Accident cover but it is important to point out that this is not provided as part of affiliate membership. For more details, see the relevant page on the BMC website [2].
Non-members are welcome on all meets (space permitting) as guests of SCC members; however non-members are not covered by the BMC Civil Liability insurance.
