Event Type

No cheesy puns from here on…not too far from home and offering a variety of grades Cheddar is a good spot for a day out clipping some bolts

Plan A:

Avoid the tourist apocalypse by heading to the gorge after the summer hols. we can park up pretty much at the base of the climbs in the middle of the gorge, and gear up out of the car boot then hopefully adjourn to one of the pubs in the village to compare tales

Plan B:

If the great British weather does its  usual trick then we can head to a nice cosy pub, oops I meant climbing wall

Plan C:

in the rare event that two good days collide, we might just camp it up  and make an apple fueled weekend of it! though this is likely to be a fairly last minute decision

Travel

We will set up a facebook event for this meet . Please use this to coordinate car/van/magic carpet sharing, or get bonus points for cycling 🙂

The climbing

The Gorge is primarily a sport climbing destination (there are trad lines listed, but like Portland it’s bolted for good reasons. The ownership of the gorge is split north (national trust) and south (private) of the road, please have a good read of: UKC cheddar south, and Cheddar gorge north The south side has some access restrictions, and the land owners require all climbers to have insurance, so please bring your membership card in case they ask for proof of your BMC membbership (insurance)

Access notes: Please read the BMC RAD for the latest, or just click here to get the  calendar. The restrictions on access are eased after the peak tourist season, so we can get on some more of the multi pitch routes up the south side  (some amazing multi pitch sport routes at 6b upwards) if the grades sound daunting, but you’d like to second, try to buddy up with one of the nutters (ahem more experienced leaders)
