Cornwall & Lafrowda 2026

Who?

This meet will be suitable for all members with sport climbing experience looking to get into trad climbing. Being able to abseil safely is a desirable skill.

What?

In the depths of winter we all look forward to summer… And summer means one thing… Cornwall!!! One of the most beautiful places in the UK best known for it’s sandy beaches, super surf and tasty top class pasties… and it just so happens to have some of the most amazing climbing too!

Cornwall is home to a variety of crags and climbing. It is all trad climbing and a lot of the crags required abseil access. The rock is mostly granite in the immediate area but there are other crags that offer an interesting geological range if you fancy a change.

Although it is planned for a week away, many people may not be able to stay for the whole week due to other commitments and go for a shorter time. So do not worry if you can only come for some of it. You can also arrive on the Friday night before if this is easier – simply book the dates you require with the campsite. Once you have confirmed with the campsite, please sign up here so we know who to expect.

The Lafrowda festival is hopefully making a return top St Just in 2026 having not run in 2025. At the time of writing the dates have not yet been published, however it usually culminates in live music in a very Cornish atmosphere on the third Saturday of the month. Contrary to SCC tradition this lands on the second Saturday instead on the first, these dates have been selected to make the most of tide times.

The Club has a stock of guidebooks which are kept at Bouldershack. This can be accessed by asking at the front desk for the key to the SCC library. Members are welcome to borrow guidebooks for the meet but please sign then out and return them promptly.

Members are also able to borrow gear from the club. This can be done by filling out an equipment request form. Details can be found here.

Things to bring:

Essential:

• Tent or van!
• Sleeping stuff – Sleeping bag / mat and pillow.
• Climbing stuff  – Harness, rock shoes, belay device, helmet, prussik, sling and carabiner
• Clothing – A variety for all weather.
• Personal – stuff for showering including a towel!
• Food – There is a pub near the campsite and a co-op in StJust… Then there are the famous pasty shops!
• Water bottle – at least one for use when out and about – you may want more if the forecast is for hot weather.
• Personal first aid kit

Desirable (bring if you have these):

• Trad rack, half ropes
• Approach shoes
• Guide books
• Maps of the area
• Food for lunch and snacks for the hills / crags
