Easter Meet 2026 – Lake District

Who?

This meet will be suitable for all members. There local area is mainly trad climbing, but there are bolted quarries in driving distance and plenty of bouldering.

This meet will cost £73 pp for 4 nights – Thurs 2nd – Mon 6th April. This is for a bed in the hut and use of the hut facilities. There are initially 20 places open on this meet, but this may increase to 22 if it proves popular.

As there is a decent amount of parking (rare for the Lakes) we are able to offer four spaces to vans. This will be on a first come first served basis, and only applicable to those who have paid for a space in the hut. If you plan on bringing a van select a van ticket below – Note, if you’re sharing a van only one of you needs to book a van ticket, the other must book a bunk ticket as normal.

Please note – when booking a place on this meet you are committing to attending. We cannot offer refunds for meets where the Club has booked accommodation in advance as this leaves us out of pocket. If, after booking, you cannot attend for any reason you can recoup the cost by finding another SCC member to ‘sell’ your space to. If you do this or cannot attend, please let the committee know.

What?

An area with plenty of walking, climbing and lakes! The club has not been to this part of the Lake distinct before so it will be a good opportunity to explore.

The hut is in Patterdale, just down the road from Gelnridding and Ullswater.

Things to bring:

Essential:

• Sleeping stuff – Sleeping bag or duvet. Pillows are provided but you will need a pillow case. Sheet if you want one.
• Climbing stuff (only essential if you actually plan on climbing) – Harness, rock shoes, belay device, helmet, prussik, sling and carabiner
• Clothing – Warm clothes, and spare ones if they get wet. Always worth being optimistic and packing shorts too.
• Weather gear – Waterproofs and a good pair of boots or shoes. Suncream
• Personal – stuff for showering including a towel!
• Food – Something for at least breakfast will be handy but there is a small local shop.
• Water bottle – at least one for use when out and about
• Personal first aid kit

Desirable (bring if you have these):

• Trad rack, half ropes, single rope
• Approach shoes
• Boulder mat
• Guide books
• Maps of the area
• Walking poles
• Food for lunch and snacks for the hills / crags

The Club has a stock of guidebooks which are kept at Bouldershack. This can be accessed by asking at the front desk for the key to the SCC library. Members are welcome to borrow guidebooks for the meet but please sign then out and return them promptly.

Members are also able to borrow gear from the club. This can be done by filling out an equipment request form. Details can be found here.

Food and drink:

The hut has a fully equipped kitchen for cooking and storing food. There are pubs in Patterdale (the White Lion is only 5 mins walk) and Glenridding.

Where?

We are staying at the George Starkey Hut in Patterdale. The Hut is run jointly by the ABMSAC (Association of British Members of the Swiss Alpine Club) and the Alpine Club and offers bunkhouse style accommodation with room for 22 guests across two rooms. There is further space for 8 that is reserved for Alpine and ABMSAC club members. The beds are not allocated and the rooms are mixed. Bedding is not provided so you will need to bring at least a sleeping bag and pillow case.

Further facilities include washrooms / showers, comfortable sitting room with dining area, fully equipped kitchen and drying room.

There is a good amount of parking outside the hut. There is the option for a limited number of vans.

Although there is reasonable parking at the hut, please try to car share as much as possible.  A Facebook event and Discord channel will be set up to help facilitate with this, so feel free to post a message in there if you are able to offer lifts, or are still looking for one.

We have booked the bunkhouse from Thursday 2nd – Monday 5th April.
