Gower beach climbing Trad + Sport
Sun, sea and climbing! There are very few places in the UK where this is possible. Gower is always an incredible experience. Voted by the BMC as the second best place in the UK to climb! The setting means its ideal for all levels of experience. There is a huge range of outstanding routes stretching along the coast and a full bank-holiday in which to enjoy them.
Climbing
There is a mix of climbing available locally, both trad and sport. You can view crags and climbs at UKC – https://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/map/#main
Search ‘Gower’ and take a look at the Tor Bay area / Three Cliffs Bay.
This is a trip for ALL levels of experience and skills, with some pretty feisty and interesting routes. For beginners, it is an ideal opportunity to become more familiar with climbing outside. If you’ve never set hand or foot on rock this is the perfect time to give it a go as there are plenty of climbs at the lower end of the grade to get you started – and within an easy walk to the campsite!
Accommodation
We will be staying at Nicholaston Farm campsite for the third year in a row – as anyone who has been before will attest, this is one of the nicest sites around with high-end toilet/shower facilities, very friendly staff and a lovely farm shop/cafe on site. Even better, it is a mere 10-15 minute walk to the beach (and the crags!).
Please note – the postcode takes you to the Nicholaston House – the actual farm is South of the road.
Important – PLEASE READ
For those of you that have been to the Gower before, you will know that it is a spectacular place and the experience is special. You may also be aware that there is something about the atmosphere at the Gower that seems to provoke some rowdiness amongst members for the club.
We are the first climbing group that they have had a problem with and climbers are usually so considerate, that these are the only large groups they allow. If we make a repeat of previous years, it is likely that they will not let us back. It is the only campsite by the beach. Please be aware of your noise and behaviour.
We will be holding evening gatherings on the beach and would like to encourage BBQs to turn this into a positive experience, so that we can still be social without disrupting other campers.
