Introduction to sport climbing, Portland
Summer is on it’s way, so it is time to take your climbing outdoors! If you’ve never clipped a bolt on real rock, then this is the trip for you. Portland offers a huge variety of sport (bolted) climbs for complete newbies up to the most experienced of climbers, so this will be a great introduction to the area for all.
Cost:
This is a day meet only, and relies entirely on the generosity of more experienced members passing on their knowledge – so there is no cost for this meet, but please show your gratitude in the form of a pint or two at the end of the day!
Experienced climbers: we would be extremely grateful if you can come along for the day to help out – please drop us an email at sotonclimb@gmail.com to offer your services 🙂
Equipment:
- Warm clothes
- Waterproofs
- Sun-cream (welcome to the UK)
- Tight fitting shoes for walking (no crocks or flip-flops, although these could be brought for belaying)
- Any personal climbing gear you have, including a harness, shoes, belay device, helmet (if you have one – if not, we have some we can lend out – please email us to let us know if you need to borrow one), rope, quick-draws, guidebooks… etc
- A rucksack to put the above in to. We may be scrambling to access the crag so hand-held carrier bags will make this tough.
Booking:
If you want to join us then Sign up below – using the usual booking form.
Travel
As always, we will discuss travel arrangements closer to the time; there will be plenty of drivers so do not fear if you do not have your own form of transport.
We hope you can make it! Any questions speak to any committee member at SCW on a Tuesday night, or drop us an email at the usual address: sotonclimb@gmail.com.
