Lake District Easter Weekend
Mountains, lakes and Grasmere gingerbread! Or Kendall Mint cake if you have a sweet tooth… The Lake District is England’s only truly mountainous area and a unique place to climb! It’s ideal for everyone with some easily accessible climbing, long adventurous walk ins or a spot of Wainwright ticking. And we get to enjoy the lot for 4 days!
Climbing:
The Lake District is home to some stunning scenery and climbing, featuring both Trad and Sport climbing ranging from low grades and up!
Guidebooks available:
- Lake District Rock
- Lakes Bouldering
(Please book out from the SCC Library at Boulder Shack in the normal way!)
Accommodation:
We will be staying at the charming Dinah Hoggus Camping Barn in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The bunkhouse has been booked for 4 nights from Thursday 9th to Monday 13th April to maximise the amount of time away… more time, more climb!
There are only 12 spaces in the barn, if this fills up there are other options such as camping which we will follow up in due course.
Facilities:
There is a cooking and eating area on the ground floor, with an electric kettle, microwave, single electric cooking ring. Sleeping accommodation is on the first floor (12 Mattresses provided, bring your own bedding/sleeping bag/pillow). The washbasin and toilet are in a separate room complete with shower. (Electric clothes drier is provided). Electricity is charged extra (Meter read at start and end of stay).
Food:
We will provide the oats and milk for porridge and 2 evening meals. As the cooking facilities are very limited (1 ring stove and a microwave), we would like to know if anyone has a large camping stove that they would not mind bringing along. If the weather is good one evening, we would like to try and have a BBQ so please bring any equipment you have and bring your own meats (there will be opportunities to shop).
Directions:
Address: Dinah Hoggus Camping Barn, Stonecroft, Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 5XB. Map ref : NY 259150
From Keswick take the B5289, 5 miles down the Borrowdale Valley. The barn is on the left just over the bridge at Rosthwaite (follow sign for Hazel Bank Hotel).
Please try and car share as much as possible to reduce our carbon footprint and avoid parking issues.
Cost:
£55 for the 4 nights in the bunkhouse, including 4 breakfasts and 2 dinners. This may seem more than the typical meet cost but please bear in mind accommodation was tricky to find for the bank holiday. Prices are also generally higher in the Lakes.
Booking:
Sign up below to reserve your space. If this becomes fully booked, we will hopefully be able to find further accommodation. There are also alternatives such as camping or YHA nearby.
Important – Please read…
