This training event is intended for climbers looking into learning traditional climbing. You are expected to be a competent top rope and lead belayer in an indoor environment prior to this course.

Course content includes:

  • Principles of trad climbing and the equipment used
  • How to place trad gear and assess the quality of the placement
  • Building anchors for belays
  • Preparing abseils and abseiling best practices (for more efficiency on the day, the Abseil workshop in Calshot on April 1st is highly recommended prior to this course)
  • Guidebook use and route selection
  • Sea cliffs and their specific hazards

There are only 2 spaces available, so don’t hesitate. The price of the training is £100/person.

Prerequisite skills: During this day course, you will learn the fundamentals of traditional climbing. This is ideal for anyone who has yet to start trad climbing or for those who have just started and looking for professional instruction on what they’re doing.

Location: Dancing Ledge (Swanage)

Equipment: helmet, harness, friction style belay device, comfy climbing shoes, lunch and drink, you are welcome to bring your own trad equipment. Equipment can be provided if needed.

About your instructor: Luke is a qualified RCDI (Rock Climbing Development Instructor), CWDI (Climbing Wall Development Instructor), he is also ML (Mountain Leader) and MCI (Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor) trainee.
