Venue
Overseas meet 3rd – 10th October 2026 – Paklenica, Croatia.
Paklenica, located along Croatia’s dramatic Adriatic coastline, is one of Europe’s premier climbing destinations, renowned for its striking limestone cliffs and diverse routes. The area, centered around Paklenica National Park, offers everything from single-pitch sport climbs to long, multi-pitch routes that challenge even experienced climbers. Towering walls like Anića Kuk rise hundreds of meters above the canyon floor, providing breathtaking exposure and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Combined with its Mediterranean climate, scenic hiking trails, and proximity to the sea, Paklenica creates a unique climbing experience that blends adventure with natural beauty.
Suitability
This meet will be suitable for members with experience in outdoor sport or trad climbing. Although the area is best known for sport climbing there are some trad routes too. Both single pitch and towering multi-pitch routes covering a range of grades can be found. The single pitch routes are well bolted but its recommended to take a small rack for the multi-pitch routes which can be run out.
The single pitch routes near the entrance of the park get heavy traffic and so can be polished and the route grading can be ‘stiff’. Its recommended to take the grades with a pinch of salt. Better rock quality can be found further into the Park and on multi-pitch routes. There are also amazing treks and scrambles.
See here for info on available training.

Accommodation

We will be staying in a self catered house in Starigrad (see here), just 2.5km from entrance to Paklenica National Park and near the beach. The house has room for 12 people with a mix of twin and double rooms. If you’ve missed out on a spot sign up to the waitlist and we can look into additional accommodation, there are plenty of other options available locally for smaller numbers. You are also welcome to find your own accommodation if you prefer, please let me know if you do.
Food and drink:
The house is self catered and includes two small kitchens, outdoor cooking / bbq area and plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. There is a corner shop just 5 mins walk from the house and larger shops 3 mins drive away. There are also the usual bars and restaurants, a lot of which are within walking distance.
Costs:
Total due to club – £215. This covers car hire, fuel and accommodation
The balance of £115 is now due
There is an entrance fee for Paklencia of 22.80 Euro for 5 days (over 7 days). Additional days can be added for 7.60 Euro each.
Transport within Croatia:
The club will organise car hire from Split airport, the cost of this and fuel will be included in ticket price. Drive time from Split Airport to Starigrad is under two hours, most of the climbing areas are just a short drive from the house in Starigrad, some are even walking distance.
Unlike previous overseas meets the car prices are based on fully comp insurance. This does make the car hire a little more expensive but massively reduces the financial risk taken by our drivers. We have also accounted for two drivers per car, which may not be necessary given how close all the climbing is, if this is changed any savings will be applied at the balance payment.
Things to bring:
Essential:
- Climbing stuff – Harness, rock shoes, belay device, helmet, prusik, sling and carabiner
- Clothing – For all weather, average daytime temp around Paklenica in October is high teens / low 20s, however being Autumn it can get chilly at night and there is a chance of rain.
- Personal – stuff for showering, toiletries, etc!
- Water bottle – at least one for use when out and about
- Personal first aid kit
Desirable (bring if you have these):
- Quick draws, single rope
- Trad rack, half ropes (if planning on Trad or multi-pitches)
- Approach shoes
- Guide books
- Maps of the area
- Walking poles
- Clip stick
- Swimming stuff – we are next to the sea!
- (The beaches are rocky and water shoes may be useful)
Members are able to borrow gear from the club. This can be done by filling out an equipment request form. Details can be found here.
Insurance
Everyone will also need their own travel insurance to cover their holiday. Be aware that any existing travel insurance you have may not cover rock climbing so you might need to take out specific cover for this trip. Some suggestions include: SportsCover Direct, Snow Card or The BMC
