CANCELLED Sport Anchors Outdoors: Training
**EDIT – CANCELLED DUE TO LOW NUMBERS**
Due to the last course selling out we have another one! Maybe you have done some indoor climbing and now you’re ready to go outside, but are not sure how does it all work? Or perhaps you have done some outdoor sport but are bit bamboozled on how to “clean” the top anchor once finished to retrieve your quickdraws? Or maybe you would just appreciate a refresher in the new year to stay safe? If any of those ring true, then this is a great course for you!
During this indoor training session you will learn how to safely clean top anchors for when you are next out sport climbing. “Cleaning top anchors” is an essential skill for climbing sport routes outside and is super useful for those still seconding outdoors so the leader doesn’t have to climb the route a 2nd time! There will be discussions and practice with the full range of bolts that you might encounter whilst sport climbing.
Prerequisite skills: This session is suitable for anyone who feels they might be starting to get into sport routes outside, leading or seconding. Ideally you would have some previous experience with lead belaying, but this is not essential.
Equipment: you will need to bring a harness and belay device, if you don’t have one please let us know. And if you have it: 1 x 120cm sling, 2 x carabiner, belay with HMS carabiner. If you don’t have these items they will be provided for you.
Price: The price of the training is £17 + Boulder Shack entry fee which is currently £10.50 for SCC members on Tuesdays at time of writing.
About your instructor: This course will be run by our very own Luke Hunter. Luke is a qualified MCI (Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor), RCDI (Rock Climbing Development Instructor), CWDI (Climbing Wall Development Instructor) and ML (Mountain Leader).
IMPORTANT: We reserve the right to cancel the course if the spaces don’t fill – you will be informed by email if that is the case. BOOKINGS CLOSE ON 20TH MARCH!
