Event Type

Maybe you have done some indoor climbing and leading and now you’re ready to go outside, but are not sure how does it all work? What do you need to know to stay safe? This course is a great place to start!

During this session you will learn how to safely climb sport routes outdoors, what happens at the top and how to safely lower off without leaving any gear on the route. This is called “Cleaning top anchors” and it’s an essential skill for climbing sport routes outside. There will be discussions and practice with the full range of bolts that you might encounter whilst sport climbing, so please bring your harness (and if you have it: 1 x 120cm sling, 2 x carabiner, belay with HMS carabiner. If you don’t have these items they will provided for you).

This course will be run by our very own Luke Hunter at Boulder Shack. You will have to pay the entry fee to Bould Shack to participate in this course, which is currently £12.

If you are new to climbing outdoors or your skills are rusty and need refreshing, this course is a a must to get you climbing safely in the great outdoors.

**Prerequisite skills**

This session is suitable for anyone who feels they might be starting to leading sport routes outside. Ideally you would have some previous experience with lead belaying, but this is not essential.

IMPORTANT: The course will be cancelled if not enough people book so that the club doesn’t make a loss on training. BOOKINGS CLOSE ON 9TH JANUARY!
