Training: Winter Skills
The winter environment brings many challenges, but also great rewards. If this is the first time you’re venturing out in to the winter mountains it’s important you know how to stay safe and learn the skills essential for doing so.
This one day training session will be led by an experienced club member who has been trained in the latest best practices by Plas y Brenin with support from the BMC.
Topics covered will include:
- Planning your winter day
- Clothing
- Navigation
- Movement on snow and ice
- Self belay
- Ice axe arrest
- Avalanche awareness and slope assessment
- Snow anchors
Please note this training is not about ‘how to climb winter routes’. If you already have winter mountaineering experience and are looking to take it to the next level please check some of the providers below.
There is no charge for this training.
